Coaching

My coaching program takes a multidisciplinary and wholistic approach to horse-work, combining the science of movement, learning, trauma, and somatics with my real world experience to create a coaching program that is transformative at heart and in practice. My work values both the horse and the human as equals and seeks to foster strong and healthy relationships built on a foundation of mutual trust. I want to bring the fun back into horse training, to create a positive experience for everyone involved; to facilitate a rediscovery of the joy of movement. I want to help people bring their horses back into a state of health and vitality, to be resilient in whatever they do. But most importantly, I recognize that this isn’t about me. It’s about you and your horse’s success and well-being. I’m just the sidekick: you are my heroes.

I am a signer of the Intrinzen Context-Designer's Creed, and I follow the principles of Intrinzen in all of my coaching. I use mostly positive reinforcement in alignment with LIMA and the Humane Hierarchy, but I am reinforcement minimal, meaning that I avoid strongly ‘shaping’ behaviours and instead look to address it's root causes and set up situations where progress unfolds naturally.

Movement Work vs Bodywork

Equine bodyworkers are similar to human massage therapists or chiropractors, providing manual therapy (touch) to their clients to influence and relax the body and mind. Equine movement work is similar to physiotherapy, helping to restore and maintain a healthy body with a movement-based approach. As a movement worker, I use the most up-to-date science to help horses feel and move their best through techniques such as environmental design, modern movement-training, and consent-based bodywork practices. I incorporate movement work into all of my coaching, whether that is in-person or online!

A success story from a Horse who went through my program:

Robin was an 11 year-old OTTB who struggled a lot with both movement and confidence. The first day I met him I struggled to lead him even a few metres as he was so resistant to movement. I first developed a relationship with him by meeting him in his herd and teaching him that he was free to interact with me as much or as little as he wanted to. This understanding that I would not force him into anything helped him to feel safe enough to begin the movement recovery process. By working with him through play he was able to rediscover so much joy in movement and unlock many ranges of motion that were inaccessible to him before.

Here's what Robin’s owner has to say:

"Remy was great with my OTTB gelding who needed help learning to play and move. My gelding definitely came out of his shell and became a more playful horse when he spent time with Remy."
